Join Elizabeth Township’s Annual Roadside Clean Sweep This April

Annual Clean Sweep Volunteer Event

Spring is a time of renewal, and it’s the perfect opportunity to give back to the community we call home. Each year, residents of Elizabeth Township come together for the Annual Roadside Clean Sweep, a volunteer effort focused on keeping our township roadsides clean, safe, and beautiful.

By dedicating just a few hours to picking up litter along local roads and ditches, volunteers make a visible impact across the community. Whether you participate individually or with a group, this is a simple way to take pride in where you live while helping protect the local environment.

Event Dates and Registration

The Elizabeth Township Roadside Clean Sweep will take place over a two-week period: Saturday, April 4 – Saturday, April 18, 2026 (2 weeks long)

Volunteers can register and pick up supplies at: Elizabeth Township Community Center (ETCC) Front Desk - 5760 E. Walnut Grove Rd., Troy, Ohio

ETCC Hours of Business:

  • Monday - Thursday: 6:00 AM - 8:30 PM
  • Friday: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM
  • Saturday: 8:00 AM - Noon

When you register, you’ll receive all necessary supplies and instructions to participate.

How the Roadside Cleanup Works

Participating is simple and flexible:

  • Register at the ETCC Front Desk to pick up supplies and receive instructions.
  • Choose a roadside area in Elizabeth Township
  • Collect litter using the provided bags and gloves
  • Leave filled bags by the roadside
  • Call Nic Rice (937-216-0579) to let him know the filled bags are ready for pickup

You do not need to transport trash yourself. Township staff will handle collection once bags are placed roadside and pickup is scheduled.

Cleanup Supplies Provided

  • Rubber gloves
  • Orange trash bags for general refuse
  • Clear trash bags for aluminum and glass recyclables

Each material should be placed in separate clear bags before being left roadside.

All filled bags—both trash and recyclables—should be placed by the road and pickup must be scheduled by calling Nic Rice.

Safety Guidelines for Volunteers

  • Stay aware of passing traffic and surroundings
  • Wear brightly colored clothing or safety vests
  • Wear hard-soled, closed-toe shoes
  • Wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts when possible
  • Use gloves when handling litter
  • Do not attempt to move large, heavy, or hazardous items

If you encounter illegal dumping, graffiti, tires, or bulky debris, report it rather than moving it. Report or schedule pickup: Nic Rice at 937-216-0579
