We have started a Garden Club. It will meet on the second Wednesday of the month at 1:00. The Garden Club is free for center members; non-members are charged a $10 year program fee. Dues will be $10 per year for all Garden Club members. Our next meeting will be June 11 at 1:00 P.M. and we will hold a perennial plant auction. A free program open to all on “Basic Lawn & Landscape Maintenance” will be held on June 21 at 2:00 P.M. Come talk to John Ryman, President and General Manager of Quality Lawn, Landscape and Fence, Inc. about your lawn and landscape needs. Remember our Senior Club meets for a carry-in luncheon and program the first Wednesday of the month at noon. American Red Cross Adult CPR/AED class will be held on June 14 at noon. Call the Red Cross at 332-1414 to register. New on the exercise scene is our Zumba class. This class is held Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6:00 P.M. Join us for a fun, vigorous class with a Latin flavor.
If you haven’t visited us yet, please stop by for a tour and see what a great place to rent the ETCC is for your next event!

There were a total of 11 Medic runs and 4 Fire runs in Elizabeth Township during the month of March. The total runs for the year is 38. The average response time was 8.5 minutes from time of dispatch to time on scene.
Every household needs an escape route out of the house. Hopefully it will never have to be used. Make sure all members of your family know the drill. Practice the drill to be sure every family member knows where to meet for the head count.
The Miami County Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with RMS Communications of Florida have started collecting used cell phones that will be reconditioned and then distributed to victims of crimes and the elderly that are at risk.
To help with this program, the Junior and Senior classes at Miami East High School, Bethel High School, Newton High School and West Milton High School have taken on the collection of used cell phones as a class project.
By donating your used cell phone, you are doing more than just providing emergency communications for someone in need; you are supporting law enforcement and victims of crime.
The museum has received many items recently showing how the residents of Elizabeth Township lived in the past. We are receiving pictures to copy for the museum. We are looking for more of these pictures. You don’t have to give us the pictures. We will scan them into the computer and return them to you. We are looking for pictures of family groups, farming and community life, school, churches, old cars, etc. Military pictures and information about your time in the service are being collected for a military scrapbook. Genealogy and family trees are also needed.
If you haven’t been to the museum recently, please come and see how we are growing. Look at all the pictures that are being hung on the walls at the center. I am usually at the center on Monday and Thursday mornings. Come and see me or call me if you have any ideas for the museum or if you have any questions. Let me know if you need the museum to be open at a specific time.

Recycling is very important. Imagine how much trash is going into landfills everyday. You can do your part by taking items to the Recycling Center in Troy at 2200 N. County Road 25-A. These items are taken without charge to you, aluminum and bi-metal cans, cardboard-No pizza boxes, glass bottles/containers, newspaper, office paper, phone books, #1 and #2 plastic containers, and steel food containers. Together we can reduce the amount of trash that we all make.
Also there is a Pay as You Throw Program: Purchase 5-30 gallon bags for $6 and dispose of your trash for no charge in the Recycling Center.
I have enjoyed writing this newsletter but I feel it is time for someone else to take it over. Responsibilities are writing the newsletter, e-mailing copy to printer, picking up the finished newsletters, sorting for mailing, and taking to the post office for mailing. Also need to attend meetings and maintain the 789 Township Addresses. Please contact Ron Swallow if you are interested in this position.
